As I mentioned in my preamble for the Stiletto vs Ego post, after many many years, I've once again turned my hand to trying to craft poetry. This in a large part has been motivated by the various themes on BlueSky that mix poetry with photography. For example, #ImageAndVerse or #PaintByWords. Both encourage you to write your own poems matched with one of your own images. With that in mind here is are some of my most recent attempts, excluding the Stiletto vs Ego. It's a six part piece that has its own post.
Today, 17 July, I knowingly wrote my first ever haiku; something that I'm inordinately prooud of. It may also possibly, maybe, in the scheme of things and the fullness of time, qualify as a senryƫ
Alert Heron's stare
Appears that the lights are on,
But no one is there.
Clearly that was not my first ever attempt at humour. A skill for which I'm renowned at producing quantity, but sadly, not quality. As further demonstrated by...
The roof is gone,
We don't know where it is.
They also took the door.
We're going to miss that.
And windows number none.
That might let some rain in.
But at least we have walls...
... A wall.
Exploring the least travelled road
To the furtherest mountain
Venturing into the unknown
To open adventure.
Now for something a little more serious. A little more heartfelt.
Do you remember walking together
Through a sunlit joyful world
Past still waters and streaming rapids
Talking along forest paths
In dappled shadows
Lost in each other's smiles
Treading soft leaf fall
Melded by our words
Beneath rustling breeze
Hands linked
Fingers mingled
Hearts joined
Or so I thought
But you're gone now
Long gone
Not coming back
And the world that is left
Empty
Cold
Featureless
Dark
Intense determination
Fierce competition
Gritting teeth
Gasping breath
The moment is all
The win paramount
