More poetry of 2026

12 August 2026

As already mentioned in my previous poetry posts, after many many years, I've once again turned my hand to trying to craft poetry. This in a large part has been motivated by the various themes on BlueSky that mix poetry with photography. For example, #ImageAndVerse or #PaintByWords. Both encourage you to write your own poems matched with one of your own images. With that in mind here is are even more of my most recent attempts.

Let Me Sleep!

Let Me Sleep!

Phantom noise, be silent
Let me sleep

Overly warm blanket, be cool
Let me sleep

You, intrusive thoughts, be gone
Let me sleep

Heavy rain, I love you, but
Let me sleep

Bright full moon's light, dim
Let me sleep

Overly cool blanket, be warm
Please, just let me sleep!

Myriad Kisses

Let me shower you with myriad kisses,
And with slow caresses play,
For we can bind our love in beauty,
Letting the sensual releases grow.

Wrap me warm in your perfect smile,
Show me how your magic flows,
And with answering kisses flying free,
Let us build to perfect ecstacy.

Steps in the Sand

Steps in the Sand
The three walk
Parent, dog, child
Steps in wet sand
Shoreline sojourn
On ocean's edge
Waves' rhythmic crash
Gulls' background cries
Wind-ruffled hair
Salt-sprayed face
Dog's unbridled joy
Child's relentless curiosity
Graceful peace of merely being

Mutual Benefit

Mutual Benefit
Fiery petals singing a siren's call
luring bees and butterflies,
yes, and hoverflies too.
Welcoming all who seek nectar sweet
each relishing with delight;
pollination the simplest of fees.

Pastels

Pastels
Pastel art, so often gentle.
Colours hiding beauty
In subtle shades
With circumspect meanings.
The eye must search for depths
And yes, the mind also.
The shadings appearing shallow
Only to reveal themselves
To be of more complex tones
Under a thoughtful gaze.
A whole new meaning.
A whole new image.
To revel in.
To explore.
